How to reduce the impact of tractor vibrations?

Written by Tractor tyre expert | 24 July 2017

The vibrations to which tractor operators are exposed on a daily basis have an impact on their health.
Problems of vision, digestive problems and lumbar deformations are the direct consequences of these vibrations.

The tractor vibrations are passed on directly to your body and consequently are harmful to your health. They come from wheel-to-ground contact and spread through the tyre, moving on to the cab, the seat and the steering wheel with which you are in contact.

The pathological effects of this disturbance depend essentially on various physical parameters.

The frequency and amplitude of the vibrations must not be too high. The amplitude characterises the intensity of the movement endured by the driver. On a tractor, it is 0.8 msˉ². on average. According to a European directive dated 2005, if this value is higher than 0.5 m.sˉ², the farmer is advised to seek medical check-ups and take organisational measures to reduce exposure as far as possible.

As several factors can intensify these shocks during your agricultural activities, we highly recommend that you take them into consideration.

  • Make the right choice: adapt the tyre mount to your tractor and its use
  • Follow tyre handling rules during assembly
  • Adapt tyre pressure in order to work safely
  • Sit in the correct position behind the steering wheel of your tractor
  • Carry out regular equipment maintenance
